　平成最後の展示会、「FRAGMENTS」が終了しました。

　いつも新しい挑戦を続けるnillさん。
　今回は熊本産い草がテーマとなりました。nillさんの発想によって、畳表だけではない、い草の可能性が見えたのではないでしょうか。そして、この展示会を通して、い草の現状に興味を持って頂けたら幸いです。

藺（いぐさ）

　「藺（いぐさ）」は、トウシンソウ(燈心草・灯心草)と呼ばれ、薬草や和蝋燭の芯として昔から活用されていたそうです。
い草の花は、線香花火のようなカタチをしています。このピアスは、い草の花をイメージしています。
会期も残りわずかとなりました。ぜひ、いらして下さいね。

ちょっと真面目なお話

ちょっと真面目な話。

国産の畳のうち95%が熊本で生産されています。
そしてそのほとんどが八代産。
現在、安価な外国産畳が8割を占めています。
また、洋式の住宅スタイルにより、畳の需要は減少しています。
このため熊本県のい草農家は40年で約95%減少したそうです。
今回の展示会では、畳ではない、新しい「い草」の可能性を模索しました。

95% of Japanese-grown Igusa is prodused in Kumamoto.
And most of them are made in Yatsushiro.
Currently, cheap tatami mats from foreign countryies has share of 80%.
In addition,demand for tatami mats are decreasing because of the western style of housing.
For these reasons,95% of Igusa farmer in kumamoto is decreasing in last 40 years.
Exploring the new possibilities of Igusa, not tatami mats at this exhibition.
